Does anyone know good books about the Northern Ireland conflict / Irish history? :)
This is why Amsterdam is freaking amazing.
“Amsterdam, the Dutch city of free love and open minds, pulled out all the stops to greet Russian President Vladimir Putin this week. Rainbow flags were flying at half-mast, the canals were crowded with floats, and thousands of protesters came out waving vicious but creative signs. ”
Do you understand what happened here? Do you remember the question at the beginning of the week? Would a dictatorship be possible again in Germany? That’s what happened here. Fascism. We thought we were special. Better than the rest. And what’s worse, we excluded others who didn’t agree with us. We hurt them.. I don’t want to think what we might have been capable of.
Quick history: The First Republic
At the end of the First World War (1914-1918), Austria-Hungary collapsed. On its ruins was among other states created on 28th Ocober 1918 the Czechoslovak Republic as a democratic state under President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.
First Republic of Czechoslovakia (often called první republika in Czech) wasn’t formed only by the Czech lands but also by Slovakia and Ruthenia. On the map: Bohemia = Čechy, Moravia and Silesia = Morava a Slezsko, Slovakia = Slovensko, Carpatian Ruthenia = Podkarpatská Rus.
At the beginning of its existence Czechoslovakia had to deal with serious problems.
This week’s cover: as Syria disintegrates, it threatens the entire Middle East. The outside world needs to act before it is too late.
“When these things happen I react not as a president, but as a parent.”

Amnesty International: Letter Campaign 2012
I just finished writing two letters to support Amnesty International’s Letter Campaign 2012 because I want to defend human rights and make a chance.
I felt like sharing this link with you guys, because I know that some of you are supporting Amnesty International and that you might as well want to send a letter or two. All information about the campaign, adresses etc can be found in the link.
Oh and here are the videos about Alex Bialiatski and Azza Hilal Ahmad Suleiman, the two human rights defenders I support with my letters. However, in the link you find quite a lot of people whose rights need to be defended. Check it out, read the descriptions and decide for yourself whether you want to take part or not. Remember: It doesn’t take a lot of effort and helps people, it can change their lives and the future of their countries.
Cheers!
